Prosper of Aquitaine is best known for accusing the monks of Provence
as Semi-pelagianists. Due to these accusations, some scholars gave John
Cassian´s 13th Conference (c. 426 AD) an important
role in the development of this soft version of Pelagianism, after
reading it as a contestation of Augustine´s teachings on Grace, Free
Will and Predestination. In this presentation, we intend to consider the
13th Conference not as a contestation of Augustine or
the foundation of Semi-pelagianism but as part of a monastical
theological´s perspective, centered in human agency and in the
importance of obedience for salvation.
