Michael Pacella: Saint Gregory Palamas (1296-1359) a faithful transmitter of patristic mystical theology-with a special emphasis on the Essence-Energy debate

Saint Gregory Palamas (1296-1359) although not considered a part of the canon of patristic Fathers, has nonetheless had a tremendous influence on the thought and practice of Eastern Orthodox mystical theology. The roots of his thought can be traced back to the Cappadocian Fathers in addition to Pseudo-Dionysius, who also was a major participant in the formation of his theological framework.  I would like to propose the possibility, that he was a faithful transmitter of the Orthodox Faith of the patristic era. The contentious subject of the Essence and Energy debate will also be discussed in this talk.
