While during the first three centuries Sardinia with its mines was a terrible
"penal colony" for Christians, the conditions changed after the "Toleranzedikt"
of Galerius. Nevertheless later on this isle again became a place for
undesirable Christians as one can see in the biography of Fulgentius of Ruspe.
During the Vandal Kingdom he, together with a group of bishops, had to leave
North Africa and to stay on Sardinia for many years. This paper tries to shed
some light on this center for exiled persons with its conditions, restrictions
and chances.
