Radu Gârbacea: Homilia in Transfigurationem Domini (CPG 5807): A Sermon of Proclus of Constantinople?

The subject of this short communication is the
homily on the Transfiguration(CPG 5807)that is identified as a homily of Proclus by the Clavis
Patrum Graecorum, though the manuscript tradition attributes it to both
Proclus of Constantinople and John Chrysostom. The homily has received little
scholarly attention and a critical edition is still expected. In this short paper I will present the results
of an analysis of the homily. The analysis situates the homily attributed to
Proclus in relation both to his certainly authentic homilies and to other
patristic homilies on the Transfiguration. Then the analysis turns to the
vocabulary, theological themes, and elements of novelty that this sermon brings
to patristic exegesis on transfiguration. This analysis of the homily attributed to
Proclus makes a contribution to the question of Proclian authorship of the
homilies there were transmitted both under the name of Proclus and under the
names of other church father. The analysis also contributes to the study of the
patristic exegesis of the Transfiguration.
