Alistair C Stewart: ἄριστον μὲν ὕδωρ: ancient breakfasts and the development of eucharistic foods
Although the past years have seen a great deal of attention paid to meals in the Graeco-Roman world and their influence on eucharistic origins, this attention has largely focussed on the cena and the accompanying symposium. In this paper I gather such information as is available regarding the ientaculum and the prandium, and their equivalents in the Hellenophone world, and suggest that this is important for the study of early Christian eucharistic worship.
