This communication offers an analysis of the composition of Lactantius’ De mortibus persecutorum. Previous analyses focus on the structure of the narrated action. Taking into account other elements, including the addresses to Donatus, the dedicatee of this short work, auctorial statements, catalogue-like passages, the change of summarizing and extensive narration, etc., the work can be shown to be a well-rounded, carefully conceived composition.
