In this paper I will examine Cyril of Alexandria’s approach to supersessionism. With reference primarily to Cyril’s Commentary on Isaiah, I will consider his understanding of the relationship between Israel and the church, and especially of the position of Israel since the coming of Christ. I hope to display the biblical grounding for Cyril’s approach to supersessionism and to evaluate the adequacy of his conclusions on hermeneutical grounds.
