Everywhere in his Divine institutes, Lactantius refers to testimonies from pagan, oracular, or, in certain contexts, biblical literature in order to confirm his arguments. But often, the author obviously uses some Christian or even pagan sources without revealing it. The paper examines, based on some examples, where, how, and why Lactantius consults his hidden library.
