Olivier Delouis: Theodore the Studite on Pseudo-Basil’s Ascetic Constitutions
The “Constitutiones asceticae” or Ascetic constitutions (CPG 2895) are apocryphal but attributed to Basil of Cesarea in all manuscripts containing his Asketikon (CPG 2875). The abbot Theodore the Stoudite (759-826) somehow understood this problem and decided to contribute to the controversy, writing a Scholion to defend Basil’s authorship. In our paper, we will present a first critical edition, an English translation and a commentary on this short text.
