Leena Mari Peltomaa: MARY'S INTERCESSIONS

The proposal is related to my current project, “The intercessory function of Mary as the original catalyst for the cult of Mary in Byzantine society”, on which I have been working at the Institute of Byzantine Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since November 2007.
The project examines the process whereby the Virgin Mary attained the status of intercessor of the Eastern Roman Empire from the early Byzantine period to Iconoclasm (843).
It is evident that several aspects of Mary’s intercessions have not yet been properly discussed in scholarly literature. The proposed workshop will demonstrate the case.

Workshop presenters:
Antonia Atanassova, USA: A Ladder to Heaven: Ephesus I and the Theology of Marian Mediation.
Theodore de Bruyn, Canada: Chronological aspects of liturgical and para-liturgical evidence for the intercessory function of Mary in Egypt.
Stephen J. Shoemaker, USA: Early Evidence for Marian Intercession in Palestina from the Ancient Dormition Apocrypha.
Leena Mari Peltomaa, Austria: The Intercessory Function of Mary in Byzantine Understanding.
Mary B. Cunningham, UK: Innovation and Exegesis in a Ninth-Century Byzantine Life of the Virgin Mary

  1. Really Mother Mary listens to earnest prayer.
Even in our Hindu Puranam DEVI BHAGAVATAM there are number of chapters describing how Mother Godess Durga saves persons , people from dangers and invading armies.
