Marcela Andoková: Quae est iustitia nisi misericordia? The relationship between mercy and justice in St. Ambrose's thinking.

God’s justice is his mercy. Although these two characteristics seem to contradict each other, in reality it is not like this because God’s mercy brings the fulfillment of true justice. Therefore the aim of this contribution is to examine biblical and eventually non-biblical sources of Ambrose's use of the terms mercy and justice, as presented in his exegetical works, especially in his Expositions on the Psalms and Luke’s Gospel. To pursue this aim, I will explore different contexts in which he puts these two terms together in order to speak about social justice, charitable works, care for the poor, etc.
